My daughter, like many four year old girls, is a huge Hello Kitty fan, so I just had to make her this adorable hat for Christmas.
All in all, it was a fairly easy hat to work up. It took me a bit longer than usual simply because I had to keep the project hidden and could only work on it while she was at school. I think it turned out really well, however, if I were to make another one, I have a few things in mind that would have made it better.
If you would like to make one of these cute hats yourself, you can find the pattern I used on Ravelry and on Crochet in Color.
Here are my tips:
1. The pattern, as it is written, will give you a very visible seam. That seam, while not glaringly obvious to everyone, will drive you crazy every time you view your work. The pattern does, however, include a note (that I stupidly missed) on how to make the hat without an obvious seam. To do so, just continue going around without joining, marking the first stitch of each round.
2. When placing the face, be sure to use a picture of Hello Kitty for guidance. I suggest placing the nose first, and then counting the spaces from there to the eyes to make sure they are even.
3. This one is another amateur mistake on my part, as this was my first project attaching any sort of embellishments. I highly suggest sewing the pieces together, tightly, with sewing thread in a matching color versus using yarn. While you can sew it on using the yarn, it will leave the pieces to stick out a bit and will not look as nice.
